Contrast Liberal VS Conservative

A young woman was about to finish her first year of college.  Like so many others her age, she considered herself very liberal, and among other liberal ideals, was very much in favor of higher taxes to support more government programs, in other words redistribution of wealth.
She was deeply ashamed that her father was a rather staunch conservative, a feeling she openly expressed.  Based on the lectures that she had participated in, and the occasional chat with a professor, she felt that her father had harbored an evil, selfish desire to keep what he thought should be his for years.
One day she was challenging her father on his opposition to higher taxes on the rich and the need for more government programs.
The self-professed objectivity proclaimed by her professors had to be the truth and she indicated so to her father.  He responded by asking how she was doing in school.
Taken aback, she answered rather haughtily that she had a 4.0 GPA, and let him know that it was tough to maintain, insisting that she was taking a very difficult course load and was constantly studying, which left her no time to go out and party like other people she knew.  She didn’t even have time for a boyfriend, and didn’t really have many college friends because she spent all her time studying.
Her father listened and then asked, “How is your friend Audrey doing?” She replied, “Audrey is barely getting by.  All she takes are easy classes, she never studies and she barely has a 2.0 GPA.  She is so popular on campus; college for her is a blast.  She is always invited to all the parties and lots of times she doesn’t even show up for classes because she’s too hung over.”
Her wise father asked his daughter, “Why don’t you go to the Dean’s office and ask him to deduct 1.0 off your GPA and give it to your friend who only has a 2.0.  That way you will both have a 3.0 GPA and certainly that would be a fair and equal distribution of GPA.”
The daughter, visibly shocked by her father’s suggestion, angrily fired back, “That’s a crazy idea, how would that be fair!  I’ve worked really hard for my grades!  I’ve invested a lot of time, and a lot of hard work!  Audrey has done next to nothing toward her degree.  She played while I worked my tail off!”
The father slowly smiled, winked and said gently, “Welcome to the conservative side of the fence.”
If anyone has a better explanation of the difference between conservative and liberal I’m all ears.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thought about deleting this in order not to offend anyone, but this is the way it seems!
If you ever wondered what side of the fence you sit on, this is a great test!
If a conservative doesn’t like guns, he doesn’t buy one.
If a liberal doesn’t like guns, he wants all guns outlawed.
If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn’t eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.
If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who is going to take care of him.
If a conservative doesn’t like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don’t like be shut down.
If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn’t go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced.
(Unless it’s a foreign religion, of course!)
If a conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for
it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.
  1. Conservatives are for shipping all our jobs overseas, taking away the safety net, and then calling the unemployed lazy.
    • Ben,
      If you truly believe your comment I feel sorry for you. I think you need to re-read the post and think about it. This country is falling into the same trap the Europe is in. If anyone can name one country where Socialism has succeeded for over fifty years with the standard of living we have in the U.S. I will become a Socialist today. The fact is it has not, and will not happen. You can’t have one person working in private business supporting another person who works for the government. Government produces no income. Governments only source of income is taxes from the private sector. Economics 101 dictates the only sources of income are derived from agriculture, mining, and industry. All service industries are created to support these three sources of income. The tipping point for businesses to send jobs over seas is about 15%. Unions that will not negotiate reasonably, and government regulations that are out of control are two of the primary reasons jobs are lost to other countries. If you can refute the logic of the post, please do so. If you can’t, please stop drinking the kool-aid.
      • Hey dummy- Norway, Australia, and New Zealand have higher standards of living than the U.S. and they’re far more socialized. The Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Germany have a comparable standard of living and they are also far more socialized than the U.S. And guess what? The U.S. is the biggest debtor nation in the world thanks to your right-wing policies that are destroying our country.
        You’re what is known as an authoritarian follower. You believe what is in line with your right-wing ideology — facts be damned. You’re no patriot. You’re a domestic terrorist.
      • Ben,
        You are a real piece of work. You are also so typical of liberal thinking (which is a mental illness). You can’t debate facts so you call people names. That’s fine because that’s the best you can do to defend a defenseless position. If you combine all of the countries that you mentioned the population doesn’t approach that of the U.S. If you look at the good things the U.S. has done for other countries, those countries pale in comparison. The United States has been, and continues to be the country every other country turns to in times of trouble (in spite of Barry). Norway was part of the Marshall Plan after WWII. I’m not going to waste my time or yours explaining things you should already know. I will continue being your definition of a “domestic terrorist”, and a “dummy” you can continue being a liberal. If you think these other countries are so great I suggest you save your money, move to the country of your choice, and live happily ever after. If you cannot afford the move I’m sure people will be happy to give you the money.
      • Hey dummy- Name one country with a free market economy that has been successful in the past 50 years. Or ever. You can’t. You just believe in it because you’re brainwashed to believe it.
      • Ben
        I have been patient with you, but my patience has run out. You continue to call me names, and I think I have been more than fair by allowing you to post your comments. The bottom line is you are a hopeless liberal, with no real argument to be made. The United States of America has been a wonderful success with only minor blips along the way. Those blips include Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Roosevelt, Lyndon Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and obama. These five Socialists have done more damage to this country, and therefore the world than all other presidents combined. I realize these people are probably your heros. If you wish to comment in the future please leave the name calling out of the comment. This particular post is now closed to your comments.
  2. Bravo! I’ve actually used the grade distribution argument. It makes perfect sense. I thoroughly enjoyed your ‘side of the fence’ list – first time seeing that one. Thanks.
    • Thanks. I appreciate your kind words.
  3. Great piece of facts that you’ve obtained on this web site publish. Hope I will get some much more of the stuff in your weblog. I will appear again.
